Purpose: This scholarship is to reward and encourage high school seniors who are residents of the Bloomingdale community to pursue a college career and to honor the exemplary efforts and outstanding dedication of B.J. Stelter, Bloomingdale Senior High School’s (BSHS) Principal from 1991 thru 2005.
Awards: One award is given to a pending graduate of the current school year. It is non-renewable.
Eligibility Requirements:
v Candidate’s parent/guardian must be a resident of Bloomingdale, as defined on the Bloomingdale Homeowners Association website: www.bloomingdalehoa.com.
v Proof of residency requirement is required before scholarship disbursement.
v Candidate’s parent/guardian must be a member of the Bloomingdale Homeowners Association in good standing. Membership must be current when the submission of an application occurs.
v Candidate must be a graduating high school senior from the Bloomingdale Community.
v Candidate must have, according to the latest available Progress Report, at least a weighted 3.2 grade point average. Proof of grade point average will be required before disbursement.
v Candidate must be accepted at a 2- or 4-year accredited college or university. Students may apply for a scholarship prior to acceptance, but proof of acceptance will be required before scholarship disbursement.
v The award will be made without regard to financial need.
v Children or grandchildren of current Bloomingdale Homeowners Association Directors are not eligible.
Selection Criteria: Recipients will be chosen on the basis of the following selection criteria, listed from most important to least important:
v Community Service
v Extra-curricular activities
v Essay
v Academics
v Letter (s) of Reference
Important Dates:
v January 22
- Scholarship opportunity posted in the Gazette, Facebook and at BSHS. Applicants may attend other schools as long as they live in Bloomingdale.
- Applications are available at BSHS, at the BHA office, and via email at bloomingdale.homeowners@gmail.com.
- Applicants with questions may call 813-681-2051 for information.
v April 1
- Deadline for applications. No exceptions.
v May 12 - Bloomingdale Homeowners Association board meeting.
- Winner will be invited to attend this meeting and his/her name will be announced.
Essay: Each candidate will complete a typed essay of no more than 500 words. The student must select one of the following topics for his essay:
- “What receiving this scholarship would mean to me”
- “What performing Community Service has meant to me”
- “How living and growing up in Bloomingdale has shaped me as a person”
Submission Each candidate will be required to submit the following by the above defined deadline:
ð A completed application
ð The typed essay
ð One letter of reference from a high school faculty member, or, a representative of a Community Service organization listed on the application. While either is acceptable, the latter is preferable.
ð An official transcript from their high school.
ð An official Discipline Record from their high school.
ð A Summary Worksheet from their high school detailing service hours.

Additional Information
v Scholarship awards will be paid directly to the Director of Financial Aid at the recipient’s school of choice.
v Funds may be used to support any educational expenses, allowed by the college/university.
v No notification will be made to those applicants not selected.
v All submissions become the property of the Bloomingdale Homeowners Association and will not be returned.
v Incomplete submissions will be disqualified.
v Winners will be invited to the Scholarship Award Announcement, at the meeting of the Bloomingdale Homeowners Association during May, and agree to have their names/photos published by any interested news organization.
v By submitting an application, candidates agree to all rules contained in this document.
v The decision of the Selection Committee is final. No appeals are permitted.
