Military Order of the Purple Heart Scholarship

Who is Eligible? 

  • The recipient of the Purple Heart, or
  • The direct descendant (child, step-child, adopted child, grandchild, or great grandchild) of a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, or
  • The direct descendant (child, step-child, adopted child, grandchild, or great grandchild) of a Veteran killed in action, or a Veteran who died of wounds, but did not have the opportunity to join the Military Order of the Purple Heart, or
  • The spouse or widow of a recipient of the Purple Heart, a Veteran killed in action, or a Veteran who died of wounds.

What is the Criteria? 

– A graduate or upcoming graduate (Senior) of an accredited high school, or

– Accepted by or enrolled as a FULL-TIME undergraduate student (12 or more semester credit hours, or 18 quarter credit hours, or as determined by the school) at a U.S. College, University or Trade School at the time the scholarship is awarded, (graduate students are not eligible) and

– Able to demonstrate the capacity for advanced academic achievement or technical proficiency as demonstrated by at least a 2.75 cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) based on an un-weighted 4.0 grading system, and

– A citizen of the United States of America.

When is the scholarship due? 

The 2015-2016 MOPH Scholarship Application. is already available, and asks for 2 letters of recommendation, a 200-300 word essay, and a high school and/or college transcript. The deadline for applications is 5:00 PM (Eastern Standard Time) January 21, 2015.
